General Smuts meets wounded soldiers

During a recent tour, General Smuts took the time to meet Pvt Nathan Thompson who was recovering at a rest camp.

Pvt Thompson bravely placed his foot in front of a live tent peg, and was gravely wounded.

Undaunted by the blood seeping through his boot, he persevered with his detachment and repelled an audacious enemy attack.

He was sent to the aid station after his bloody footprints were noted in the barrack room.
